Nature day trips
Doi Inthanon tours from Chiang Mai
Doi Inthanon is Thailand's highest mountain at 2,565 m, and a full-day trip from Chiang Mai is the best way to see it. Classic tours drive up to the summit, stop at the King and Queen pagodas set in flower gardens, visit a Hmong hill-tribe market and finish at the thundering Wachirathan Waterfall.

For walkers, there are guided trails inside the national park. Pha Dok Siew is an easy walk through jungle and past waterfalls down to the rice fields and wooden houses of Mae Klang Luang. The Kew Mae Pan ridge trail, near the summit, is often above a sea of clouds and is open from 1 November to 31 May.
Nearby, the Pa Pong Piang rice terraces step down a valley and are at their best from mid-August to the end of November, when the rice turns from bright green to gold. You can also pair Doi Inthanon with a morning at an elephant sanctuary.
