Booking a day trip in Chiang Mai: what to check before you pay

1. The licence

Tour businesses in Thailand need a tour business licence. Ask for the number before you pay. Ours is 24/01168, and it's shown on every page of this site and at our office.

2. What's included

Two trips can look the same and be priced very differently because of what's included. Check for:

• Hotel pickup and drop-off
• An English-speaking guide
• Entrance and park fees
• Lunch
• Travel insurance

3. Pickup and timing

Pickup times are usually a window (for example 08:00–08:30) and depend on where you're staying. Check the approximate return time too, especially for long trips like Chiang Rai. We confirm your exact pickup time after booking.

4. How you pay

With us, booking is a request first: we confirm availability with the operator before any payment. Then you can pay a 50% deposit online or pay in full; the payment page shows the methods available. Any balance is paid in cash in Thai baht on the day, to your guide or at our office before the tour starts.

5. The cancellation terms

Ask what happens if you need to cancel, and what happens if the weather does. Our terms:

• More than 48 hours before the tour: full refund of any amount paid online, less card processing fees
• 24 to 48 hours before: 50% refunded
• Less than 24 hours before, or no-show: no refund
• Changing your date is free more than 24 hours in advance, subject to availability
• If the tour is cancelled because of weather, safety, river levels or too few people: another date, another tour or a full refund
